Evolution – Tube sound reimagined
For more than three decades, tube audio has been one of Cayin’s defining strengths. With the new ID6, we bring this experience to a modern all-in-one desktop platform that combines network streaming, high-resolution digital playback, DAC functionality, preamp and line outputs, and a powerful headphone amplifier in a compact chassis.
The ID6 was developed for listeners who want the flexibility of a modern streaming system without sacrificing the distinctive musical character of tube amplification. Its three instantly switchable sound signatures (timbres), advanced Android platform, dual-mono ESS decoding, fully discrete balanced headphone stage, and comprehensive digital connectivity make it a highly flexible centerpiece for both headphone and two-channel systems.
Product information
The ID6 is designed as a complete desktop audio hub, combining network streaming, local music playback, USB DAC functionality, digital inputs and outputs, a line output, a preamp output, and high-performance headphone amplification in a compact chassis. It can serve as a complete headphone system, a digital source for an existing hi-fi setup, or the control center of a compact two-channel system.
-
Cayin tube tradition on a modern platform: Drawing on 33 years of experience in tube audio, the ID6 uses classic 12AU7 dual-triode tubes cascaded with MOS-FETs to create two distinct tube sound signatures, complemented by a separate transistor sound signature (solid state). This gives users three clearly differentiated sound presentations in a single device.
-
Modern digital architecture: A customized Android 14 platform, a Rockchip RK3576 processor, bit-perfect USB audio and I²S paths, two ES9082Q DACs in MONO mode, and XMOS XU316 USB processing form the core of the ID6’s digital section, supporting up to PCM 32-bit/768 kHz and native DSD512.
-
Designed for headphones and full systems: The four-channel, fully balanced and fully discrete headphone amplifier supports Class A and Class AB operation and delivers up to $4,0\text{ W} + 4,0\text{ W}$ into $16\,\Omega$ balanced. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA line/preamp outputs, together with extensive digital connectivity, enable the ID6 to integrate into a wide variety of desktop and two-channel systems.
-
Flexible Library Access and Control: Dual-band Wi-Fi, wired Ethernet, Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth, USB storage playback, a dedicated M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD slot, a 6-inch FHD+ touchscreen, real-time spectrum and VU meter visualization, and support for the Cayin Control app make the ID6 suitable for both streaming-oriented and locally stored music libraries.
Highlights
-
Three Selectable Timbres: Classic Tube, Modern Tube, and Solid-State are integrated into a single platform.
-
Classic Tube emphasizes warmth, smoothness, and intimate vocal presentation.
-
Modern Tube expands the soundstage with clearer definition and tight, powerful bass.
-
Solid-State focuses on precision, composure, and maximum detail resolution.
-
-
12AU7 Tube Architecture: Classic 12AU7 dual-triode tubes are cascaded with MOSFETs to create the two tube voicings. A dedicated tube viewing window brings the warm glow of the filaments into the visual design and underscores Cayin's tube heritage.
-
Android 14 Streaming Platform: A deeply customized Android 14 system runs on the Rockchip RK3576 octa-core processor (4x Cortex-A72 at up to 2.2 GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 at up to 2.0 GHz) and supports responsive streaming-app use, fast library scanning, smooth multitasking, and high-resolution local playback.
-
Bit-Perfect High-Resolution Playback: Optimized low-level drivers and audio frameworks provide native SoC USB audio and I²S bit-perfect transmission paths supporting up to PCM 32-bit/768 kHz and Native DSD512, while preserving signal integrity throughout the digital chain.
-
Dual ES9082Q DACs in MONO mode: One ES9082Q is dedicated to each channel, creating physically independent left and right decoding paths. This architecture was developed to improve channel separation, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), dynamic range, and the resolution of fine details.
-
Fully discrete balanced headphone amplifier: A four-channel, fully balanced, fully discrete topology uses audio-specific Nexperia BJT devices for current amplification and drive. Class A and Class AB operation are selectable, a DC servo circuit helps control DC offset, and balanced output power reaches $4,0\text{ W} + 4,0\text{ W}$ at $16\,\Omega$.
-
XMOS XU316 USB audio: The 16-core XMOS XU316 processor supports both UAC2.0 and UAC1.0 for broad compatibility with Windows, macOS, Android, Linux, and other common systems. Asynchronous transfer and precise clock re-clocking help suppress digital jitter and source-induced noise.
-
Flexible storage and networking options: Dual-band 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz Wi-Fi, wired Ethernet, Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth, USB flash drives, external hard drives, card readers, and an internal M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD slot provide users with a variety of ways to access large local and network-based music libraries.
-
Independent digital and analog power supplies: A toroidal transformer anchors the ID6’s linear power architecture, with separate power domains for digital and analog circuits. DC-DC regulation, low-noise linear regulators, and polymer-molybdenum filter capacitors are used to suppress ripple and circuit noise.
-
6-inch FHD+ touch display: The $1080 \times 2160$ display uses a custom landscape user interface with multi-touch control, dynamic spectrum visualization, and real-time VU meter display. An illuminated ring around the volume control also provides a clear visual indication of the track format.
-
Cayin Control App integration: The ID6 works with the Cayin Control App for sound-color switching, playback configuration, and device management. The app’s functionality will continue to expand through future firmware updates.
-
Extensive system connectivity: Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA line/preamp outputs, HDMI I²S-LVDS output, coaxial and optical digital inputs and outputs, USB DAC input, HDMI ARC, USB HOST ports, and wired networking enable the ID6 to serve as the central interface of a larger audio system.
