Good Luck Charm - Unique Melody MEST Fortune
To celebrate Lunar New Year 2026, Unique Melody has released a new and (unfortunately) limited IEM: the Unique Melody MEST Fortune.
Let me say this upfront: The MEST Fortune is a true flagship without the flagship price, and it will likely sell out quickly.
As always, here’s a quick unboxing:
The Fortune comes in a stylish cardboard box that looks very elegant and high-quality. Since the Fortune is available in two colors (red and purple), I can’t say whether the packaging for the red version is red or also purple...

Inside, we find the usual Unique Melody (UM) IEM box with a compartment for accessories and, of course, their classic bright blue leather case. If you wonder about the blue color: blue is UM’s brand color, so the cases are always blue, no matter the product.
You may or may not like blue, but the case is undoubtedly very well made and also very spacious.

The in-ears are additionally protected individually by fabric pouches to prevent scratches. UM really spares no expense or effort here.

Also standard with UM is the "drawer" containing a selection of various high-quality eartips and, of course, a leather strap that keeps the cable together during transport.

And here they are: The MEST Fortune in all their glory in the color purple:

The craftsmanship is, as usual, first-class, and the purple lacquer sparkles metallically in the light, which looks very elegant.

The cable named "JoyFort" is a premium copper cable specially tuned for the MEST Fortune. It matches the color of the earphones and is available in two colors corresponding to the red and purple versions.

Soundcheck
For playback, I used the new Hiby RS8 MKII – currently the best DAP on the market – as well as the new Lotoo Gungnir DAC & headphone amplifier. I also tested a combination of both devices, with the RS8 MKII acting as a streamer for the Gungnir.

MEST Fortune with Hiby RS8 MKII
The Unique Melody MEST Fortune impresses with an exceptionally precise channel separation for this price range. Individual instruments and sound layers can be clearly distinguished without the sound ever falling apart or sounding artificial. This ability significantly contributes to even complex arrangements being reproduced in a structured and clear manner.
Equally remarkable is the realistic spatial representation. For an in-ear monitor in this segment, the soundstage feels surprisingly credible and three-dimensional. Instruments are convincingly positioned not only in width but also in depth, creating a very immersive and three-dimensional sound image.
Voices are presented slightly forward without being dominant. They always remain natural and intimate, which makes vocal tracks especially emotional and direct. This presentation conveys closeness to the artist without disturbing the overall balance.
Also, acoustic instruments benefit from this tuning. String instruments and guitars sound very organic and authentic. The MEST Fortune conveys a pleasant naturalness in timbre, so instruments appear credible and free from artificial coloring.
The midrange is overall very balanced yet clearly defined. Details stand out cleanly without sounding analytical or cold. This keeps the playback informative and precise while maintaining musical smoothness.
In the treble range, the MEST Fortune offers excellent detail resolution. The highs are gently tuned but have plenty of "sparkle," giving the sound image airiness and fine detail. Despite this brilliance, there is no trace of harshness or unpleasant sharpness, making longer listening sessions especially comfortable.
The sub-bass forms a solid foundation for the entire frequency spectrum. It not only provides depth but also supports the spatial representation by giving the sound image stability and body.
The entire bass range is characterized by very good texture. It delivers enough punch and energy to convincingly reproduce genres like hip-hop, pop, or electronic music without overshadowing the rest of the frequency spectrum. At the same time, it remains controlled and precise – a tuning that could be called reference bass.
Overall, the tuning can be described as a kind of reference tuning with a touch of warmth. The sound is not strictly neutral but deliberately slightly musical. This subtle warmth provides a relaxed, long-term listening experience that supports both analytical listening and pure music enjoyment equally.

MEST Fortune with Lotoo Gungnir (RS8 MKII as streamer)
In this combination, the MEST Fortune transforms into a true bass and resolution monster. The sound gains significantly in authority, control, and detail, which noticeably elevates the entire sound image.
This combination takes the IEMs to a completely different level – one usually reserved for true flagship models. The increased dynamics, impressive resolution, and improved control across the entire frequency spectrum make the MEST Fortune far exceed their actual price range.
Particularly remarkable is the impression of size and space. In this setup, the MEST Fortune hardly feel like classic in-ear monitors anymore. Instead, they give the feeling of listening to large over-ear headphones. The soundstage opens up significantly, instruments gain body and space in the room, and the presentation feels even more confident and realistic.
Also, definition and spatial imaging benefit massively. Finest details stand out more clearly, transients feel more precise, and the entire sound image gains an additional layer of structure and depth. At the same time, the stage gains dimension, allowing instruments and voices to be located even more clearly in space.
All this impressively shows what these IEMs are truly capable of. The combination with the Lotoo Gungnir reveals that the MEST Fortune has significantly more performance reserves than one might initially assume.
With the tested combination, the MEST Fortune therefore far exceed their price class. They impressively demonstrate that there is still considerable potential here – and that these in-ears can significantly outperform themselves with high-quality playback equipment.
Conclusion
The Unique Melody MEST Fortune impressively show the level at which modern in-ear monitors now operate. They demonstrate that true flagship sound no longer has to be reserved exclusively for the most expensive models.
While around 2400 Swiss francs is by no means cheap, when compared to other IEMs in the same price range, this amount quickly seems reasonable. Considering the sound quality and craftsmanship offered, they can definitely be described as a remarkably attractive offer – if not a genuine bargain.
At the start of this review, I regretted that these IEMs would probably only be available for a limited time. Given what is offered here sonically, it would be desirable if Unique Melody would keep the MEST Fortune permanently in their portfolio.
They would be a strong statement against the competition – and a convincing proof of the sound level possible today without astronomical prices.
