Less is more - dethonray
Today I would like to introduce a rather unknown manufacturer who is known for wants to differentiate its "less is more" approach from the competition.
Anson, boss and mastermind at Dethonray, wants to reduce his products to the absolute essentials are: The sound. Everything that could negatively affect the sound quality is eliminated.
This means, among other things, that its Digital Audio Player (DAP) DTR1+ has to make do without a large touchscreen, apps, or internal storage. The design, with its large gold buttons on the front, recalls the early days of mobile MP3 players and could easily be described as retro-chic. Here, Dethonray is clearly swimming against the tide of what's currently available and popular on the market.
You don’t have to compromise on sound, on the contrary:
The DTR1+ can easily compete with the best, far above its price range. Overall, I'd say the sound of this tiny and lightweight player is truly amazing!
When testing the Empire Ears Odin, I felt like I was listening to open over-ear headphones rather than in-ear monitors. Incidentally, the DTR1+ also handles large headphones quite well, as it has more than enough power.
The Honey H1 DAC/AMP For mobile use, it takes the sound to the next level and, in combination with the DTR1+, catapults it to unprecedented heights. I've rarely heard so much power and playability from such a small and relatively inexpensive mobile headphone amplifier. Of course, the Honey H1 also works excellently with other DAPs, smartphones, tablets, or laptops!
By the way, Dethonray offers downloadable presets for the Honey H1 for various in-ears and headphones, allowing you to customize the sound of the device. They even provide a dedicated preset for their own in-ears, the Tender1.
The tender1 is The only in-ears offered by Dethonray. And here, too, Anson's "less is more" approach is evident, as the Tender1s feature only a single driver, but a powerful one at that: a planar magnetic driver!
It needs one thing above all else: plenty of power to fully exploit its strengths. Fortunately, the DTR1+ has a special "Extra High Gain" mode that provides the necessary "juice." delivers and has the Tender1 well under control.
All-round carefree package
So form The just three devices that Dethonray currently offers are a perfect unit and could be an all-round worry-free package for some music lovers, with which one can be very happy for a very long time and in all situations.
But even individually, Dethonray products make excellent "playmates" for other equipment, especially since the price/performance ratio is simply right.
