The Wavelight Audiophile Music Server - or WLS - is the perfect partner for Wavelight/Wavedream Dacs, but also for any other Dac, especially if with an I2S -Input is equipped. Additionally, the I2S output, USB, AES/EBU, SPDIF and an optical output (Toslink) are available.
FUNCTIONS AND OUTPUTS
WLS solves some important aspects of a modern audio setup. It eliminates the need for a computer as a core server, does not require a powerful CPU for PCM-to-DSD transcoding and eliminates the need for a storage server. All of these functions are housed in a slim and elegant housing that visually matches the Wavelight DAC.

The WLS combines several key elements for server-based digital audio playback: a linear power supply, a low TDP computer system running a custom Linux, and a high efficiency FPGA/DSP system for audio management.

SOFTWARE AND USER SCENARIOS
The WLS transcodes between formats at the hardware level, without overloading the CPU. Therefore, the heat and RFI emissions remain low, without affecting the audio circuits.
The WLS provides the ability to choose from a variety of server software and audio services including Roon, MPD, LMS and so on. There are many application scenarios, the device can be used as a core, as a renderer or as a endpoint.

Wavelight Server is designed to host your music. With internal storage ranging from 2TB to a maximum of 16TB, it can internally store thousands of music albums in a high-quality, uncompressed format. Additionally, WLS has 3 USB ports to which you can connect external storage and/or a NAS (Network Attached Storage) can be defined as a music source for WLS.

CONTROL INTERFACE
The WLS features a powerful control interface that can be accessed via a local browser or control app. It allows the owner to manage internal or attached storage, select active software or services, select upsampling or transcoding parameters, select I2S output settings for DAC compatibility, rip CDs to local drives, enable room correction, etc.
WLS is fully upgradeable and future-proof. Both the operating system with the services and the FPGA (audio hardware) can be easily updated via the Internet.
