THE BEST SOUND YOU HAVE EVER EXPECTED,
AND BEYOND.

We are proud to present our current flagship in digital audio reproduction. We believe it has the right ingredients to produce a sound that lives up to its name.

In the good tradition of its predecessor, the Wavedream continually pushes the limits of performance, design and sound quality. The components, innovations, technologies and features of the product are presented below.

Reviews

"The sound produced by this pairing was among the most transparent I have ever heard in digital audio, the immediacy in particular was stunning, it made pretty well everything I played sound alive in a way that some very well regarded digital systems have not matched. It delivers oodles of detail and reveals aspects of recordings that I was surprised to hear, both good and band..

If you are looking for a complete digital front end that will hold its own against the best in class you could do a lot worse than the Wavedream team."

"Everything about wavedream is superlative. The emotions I have felt on the journey It took me, reminds me of MSB Analog Dac. Yes, it is that good. I didn 't have it here to do a direct comparison, but I must say that the experience and astonishment were quite similar. If I remember correctly, WaveDream could even surpass Analog Dac resolution wise while still keeping a musical and analog sound signature Overall think they are on the same level of performance.

Considering the performance and the fact that it comes with all the inputs, features and pre-amplifier mentioned in the first part, WaveDream is a first class DAC and will be serious competition to the really big players on the market.

Rockna unleashed a real beast in the world, a truly high end dac that goes in the top of my recommendation list. My excitement and expectations for this DAC were exceeded by the results."

SOFTWARE DEFINED ARCHITECTURE

We've always believed that high-end audio should be all about innovation. Playing around with commercially available chips is fun and is certainly a good and economical way to produce good sound. But as soon as you want to develop a top-of-the-line product, the off-the-shelf approach is no longer applicable.

Then, of course, a customized solution comes into play, freed from the limitations of available chipsets and allowing us to design and build a complete digital audio system from scratch.
All the building blocks of digital processing of the Wavedream DAC concernig are built entirely on a single piece of programmable silicon - an FPGA.

With an FPGA, the internal hardware architecture can be described by a piece of software (actually a very complex piece). When you upgrade the Wavedream with new firmware, you are actually changing the hardware.

This system allows great flexibility, protection against obsolescence and allows us to improve the sound of your Dac by changing its internal architecture, adding new cool features or improving the existing ones.

FEMTOVOX CLOCK SYSTEM

The clock is the heart of a digital playback system. Their accuracy and jitter level are crucial to sound quality. Only a very good clock system can find the way to analog sound at the output of your DAC. If the timing system is faulty, digital roughness occurs and the analogue impression of the music is severely affected. Aside from the performance of the clock itself, the construction of the clock tree (the clock distribution architecture) in the DAC is equally crucial.

The jitter value that really matters is not just the power of the clock itself - but the clock that actually enters the DAC and is used for conversion - let's call it the conversion clock. The conversion clock that goes into the DAC area depends on the clock tree, which is usually not only routed, but in most cases also conditioned, which changes its quality. A poorly designed clock tree can significantly degrade the quality of the clock entering the D/A section, even if the source clock is of high performance.

With this in mind, we have developed an advanced clock system for the Wavedream called femtovox. Using femtovox ensures that only extremely small amounts of jitter are present at the clock input of the DAC conversion. The unique architecture sees the conversion clock synthesized directly at the DAC input, without any conditioning, ensuring consistent jitter performance at any sample rate.

The conversion clock is controlled with an accuracy of 1 ppb and has a jitter of approximately 300 fS. The smallest jitter value in the world? No. The smallest jitter value that actually matters? Probably.Wavedream DAC

CUSTOM DIGITAL FILTERS

The Wavedream upsamples any material at a fixed rate of 16x. The DAC modules decode the digital stream at a rate of 768Khz or 705.6Khz, depending on the input sample rate. We have found that this rate is optimal for the analog performance of the DAC modules. This simple multiplication factor (16x) hides enormous processing power.

The digital filters are manufactured with the combined effort of 58 DSP blocks, resulting in an impressive 15 GMACS of processing power.

The developed filters are unique. We avoided standard Nyquist rate filters as they do not provide the expected performance for the DAC.After many mathematical simulations and careful listening tests, we developed a custom Parks-McClellan upsampling filter. There are three variants available in the current firmware: linear, minimal and hybrid phase.

They are highly optimized filters that offer amazing performance with a large number of taps (5k), and they differ in terms of impulse response. In the linear phase, the oscillation energy (Gibb's overshoot) is divided evenly before and after the pulse.

The minimum phase type shows all energy after the pulse, while our special hyrid phase filter has a combined response between linear and minimum and shows very little overshoot before the pulse.

D/A CONVERSION

For the effective D/A conversion stage, we have developed special DAC modules called RD-0 (used in Signature - 27-bit structure) and RD-1 (used in Edition - 26-bit structure). . The modules themselves are complex technology, using a discrete sign-magnitude hybrid conductor topology and controlled by a complex algorithm embedded in their own FPGA.

Therefore, the firmware of the DAC modules is upgradable in terms of both performance and functions. Currently, the RD-0/1 can support a maximum sampling rate of 6MHz, which is the industry-specified maximum sampling rate for an audio DAC. The output of the DAC modules is unbuffered, which enables maximum transparency and natural sound reproduction.

INITIAL LEVEL

The final stage of the signal path is the analog output stage. Your contribution to the final sound is of utmost importance. Designed from the ground up to work with the RD-0 and RD-1 converter modules, the output stage is completely discrete and acts as a high-speed buffer.

We have combined J-Fet and bipolar devices in a Class A design that has an output impedance of less than 1 ohm and an equivalent input noise of just 1 nV, perfectly matching the overall performance of the converter.

THE POWER SUPPLY

Of course we have dedicated sections for digital and analogue areas. There are 3 separate transformers and all power supplies are low noise linear power supplies - no switching power supplies of any kind are used. There are a total of 20 linear controls inside the Dac. We've turned our attention to the DAC modules' controls - they've been designed from the ground up for low impedance and ultra-low noise.

ADDITIONAL MENU FUNCTIONS

In the DAC menu you will find a number of useful functions. Let's take a quick tour.

  • The preamplifier function - The Wavedream has a 256-level volume control that enables the direct connection of a power amplifier. The volume control has 0.5 dB steps for fine-resolution adjustment.
  • The phase selection function - the user can change the absolute phase of the output signal.
  • The filter selection function - as described above. The filters can be switched off for NOS operation.
  • The clock setting - there are 2 modes for the digital PLL behavior, stream and local. Further information can be found in the technical document for the clock generator under the Technology section.
  • Dither - to improve the linearity of the R2R ladder, ultrasonic dither is applied to the last 4 bits of the 24-bit digital word.

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS AND INTERNAL STRUCTURE

The Wavedream benefits from a carefully considered, completely symmetrical layout inside. The shortest signal paths and the correct design of the clock tree were our most important guidelines. All off-board connections are LVDS standard to ensure lowest interference, high speed and minimal jitter.

The transformer section is internally shielded to prevent internal EMI leakage. The housing is made entirely of black anodized aluminum with a maximum front panel thickness of 20 mm. The switches are coated with black ruthenium.
