As natives of the Maramures region, our philosophy of life is interwoven with the centuries-old forests that surround us and we have learned from an early age to appreciate and respect this craft. With Primal, we've taken this deep-rooted skill and translated it into a new perspective on headphone design.

Each wooden frame has been carefully chiseled, groove by groove, and finely sanded to ensure the smoothest possible surface. Linseed oil is then applied to refine the carved frames. This finishing touch gives the wood a natural, matte texture that accentuates its grain and restores its natural, enchanting color.

The Primal, a popular addition to our Art Gallery collection, is a special edition of the 109 Pro, which was recently named Headphone of the Year 2023/2024 by the EISA committee.

It all started with one goal - to bring joy. It's about losing yourself in sound, about the intimate connection you have with your favorite artist, song or instrument when all distractions are removed.

MEMBRANE CONSTRUCTION

In a world of fast-moving technology, we rely on proven fundamentals. Our new 50mm dynamic driver, assembled and tuned with the utmost precision, allowed us to push the boundaries of speed, accuracy and dynamic range.

To achieve the acoustic goals we set for the 109 PRO, we focused our research and development work on materials research for each individual component of the driver.

The quest to maximize the headphones' sonic capabilities began with the diaphragm, where we focused on finding the perfect balance between mass and stiffness.


Our research led to the development of the Series 109 dual composite membrane - a combination of beryllium-coated polymer and cellulose-carbon fiber composite.

The stabilization ring made of a copper-zinc alloy has the task of improving the absorption of vibrations, with the choice of materials contributing to a significant reduction in distortion.

Next to the two are the light and efficient neodymium magnet and the copper coil. Together they are housed in a CNC-machined, high-precision aluminum frame that has proven to be extremely reliable.

The W-shaped dome made from carbon fiber reinforced cellulose composite material is capable of reproducing high frequencies with incredible detail, clarity and definition. More durable than traditional alternatives used in dynamic drivers, yet lightweight, this composite material helps reduce resonances that can cause harmonic distortion.

The ultra-thin torus surrounding the dome is made of a beryllium-coated semicrystalline polymer with a thickness of 22 micrometers. By applying the Beryllium coating using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), we wanted to increase the stiffness and durability of the driver while keeping it light enough for fast transient response. These characteristics are also enhanced by the beads on the torus, which are precisely carved at an angle of 45.5°.

The high damping properties of beryllium also help to suppress unwanted resonances and give the 109 PRO its neutral, lively and transparent character.

The copper-zinc alloy stabilizer installed around the diaphragm improves the absorption of vibrations to further reduce deformation.

The membrane, together with the neodymium magnet, is housed in a high-precision aluminum frame. The frame manufactured by CNC machining provides excellent rigidity, strength and thermal stability to maintain surface flatness.

ACOUSTIC DESIGN

We wanted the 109 PRO to be vibrant and exciting through its open design, empowering the listener to connect with the music on a deeper level.

Carefully tuned by our in-house engineering team, it delivers emotionally engaging sound with great detail, clarity and just the right amount of punch. Its organic character, coupled with outstanding dynamics, excellent imaging and full-bodied voices, brings soul-stirring details to life. Plus, it's easy to control from most devices, whether they're portable sources or complicated home systems.

The spider-shaped structure and acoustically transparent grille inside the earcup expose the driver from both sides, creating our most open dispersion yet.

Following the principles of anthropometry, we positioned the driver at a precise angle and distance from the ear to achieve the ideal anatomical fit.

Velour pads comfortably surround the ears and ensure an optimal seal to produce a natural sound. Because velor is much softer and more breathable than leather, it also prevents sweating and overheating during longer listening sessions.

The self-adjusting headband distributes weight, ensuring even pressure on any head shape and size.

The 109 PRO is all about comfort - from the design of the headphones to the selection of materials, every decision has been carefully made to ensure the final product meets our highest ergonomic requirements. Once the headphones are on your head, they must remain unnoticed so you can concentrate fully on the music.

With this in mind, we have combined walnut wood, zinc, manganese steel and vegan leather to create a comfortable, lightweight yet extremely durable structure.

SUSTAINABLY SOURCED WOOD

The black walnut wood we use for our headphones comes exclusively from certified sources and is harvested from mature trees that have reached the end of their life cycle.In this way, the environment is protected and space is created for new life, while the old trees shine again in the form of a Meze headphone.

SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH LONGEVITY

The 109 PRO is manufactured with the utmost care with sustainability in mind.Because the decisions we make today can have a big impact on the world of tomorrow, we develop products that last. We believe that a longer product lifespan means a smaller footprint.

Following this philosophy, the 109 PRO can be disassembled and endlessly maintained when necessary, which can extend the life of the product infinitely.
