FINAL D8000 and FINAL D8000 Pro Edition
FINAL's open-frame reference magnetostats are true masterpieces housed in precision aluminum-magnesium alloy housings with a resonance-reducing coating.
With their ground-up thinking, the FINAL team has found the ultimate design for magnetostats. First, FINAL opted for a round driver diaphragm featuring an inwardly wound, circular aluminum ribbon as the voice coil.
Secondly, in the D8000 models, these conductor tracks are not applied to the diaphragm with an adhesive (as in many other planar magnetic designs), but are etched as an ultra-thin aluminum coating into the surface of the foil diaphragm material.
This results in a moving mass that's one-third lighter than comparable dynamic driver assemblies. Third, the diaphragm features concentric ridges that allow for a more linear movement of the diaphragm across its entire working surface.
By dispensing with the usual voice coil adhesives and a corrugated diaphragm, the D8000 drivers achieve absolutely superior reproduction of even the most subtle high frequencies. Last but not least, the AFDS (Air Film Damping System) technology eliminates the excursion problems typically associated with magnetostats by perfectly controlling the membrane movement, even at high volumes, using an air damping layer.

Voluminous and open bass
In conventional planar magnetic models, the amplitude increases in the low frequency range. Because the diaphragm comes into contact with magnets, the bass frequency had to be raised to a level that the driver unit could reproduce. To compensate for the lack of bass, the ear cushions were tightly sealed inside, and the front part of the diaphragm was designed as a closed chamber.
This is the same principle as earphones with sealed earpieces, which can reproduce bass frequencies despite their small size. Sealing the inner ear cushions makes it possible to produce bass tones across low frequency bands; these become the bass tones produced in a sealed space, just like earphones.
In the D8000, the problem of the diaphragm coming into contact with the magnets has been solved by the AFDS (Air Film Damping System), and it has become possible to reduce the frequency of the bass,

Subtle high frequenciesZen
When reproducing subtle high frequencies, the lightness of the diaphragm is crucial. Compared to other dynamic models of the same diameter, the D8000's diaphragm is one-third lighter. A super-thin aluminum coil has been etched onto the extremely lightweight foil diaphragm, eliminating the adhesive required between the coil and diaphragm in dynamic models, which has a very negative impact on the sound quality.

Newly developed AFDS: Air Film Damping System
In conventional planar magnetic models, the amplitude became progressively smaller in the lower range, causing the diaphragm to come into contact with the magnets. To solve this problem, we performed measurements using diaphragm simulations with the finite element method and laser Doppler devices and developed a new diaphragm braking technology known as AFDS - Air Film Damping System.
In this way, the problem of low bass reproducibility in planar magnet models was solved. This technology could be considered a reinvention of planar magnet models.
In the D8000, the problem of the diaphragm coming into contact with the magnets has been solved by the AFDS (Air Film Damping System), and it has become possible to reduce the frequency of the bass, that the driver unit can reproduce. Combined with breathable ear cushions, bass reproduction is possible with a volume and open sound that can only be achieved with superior dynamic models.
Designed for long life and easy repair

Implementing AFDS requires an extremely high level of precision compared to conventional drivers. For this reason, the housing was manufactured with great precision from an aluminum-magnesium alloy.

Newly developed open ear pads
In closed and open headphones, the sealing of the ear cushions ensures a characteristic extension of the playback frequency to bass frequencies that the driver unit was originally unable to reproduce.
For high-quality reproduction of the natural distribution of bass frequencies that the original sound originally has, it is necessary that the driver unit itself is capable of reproducing bass frequencies and that breathable ear cushions are used that are not tightly sealed.

The ear cushions, which have a significant impact on sound quality, were newly developed specifically for the D8000 using highly breathable foam and special fibers.
