World premiere: 24-bit R-2R DAC in a USB DAC dongle
The RU6 is a scaled down implementation of the R-2R resistor ladder network DAC of the N6II - R01 audio motherboard. Never before has there been discrete R2R DAC technology in such a small space. When developing the RU6, Cayin put sound above everything else and took many risks:
"To be honest, R-2R is not a user-friendly technology for USB dongle applications. First of all, the size of the RU6 compared to other USB dongles is up The market is pretty big: that's the minimum price of replacing a commercially available 96-resistor DAC chipset. We also encountered a number of compatibility and operational issues later in the project. Ultimately, we opted for the best possible sound performance with some compromise in user experience. From a business point of view, this is a difficult decision because we know that convenience and user satisfaction are essential factors in electronic products for the mass market. If we put sound performance above ease of use, we will become our users at one Restrict niche group of customers, but our passion for high quality audio performance has driven us crazy all over again e things to do. - Integrated high-precision volume control
- 3.5 mm unbalanced and 4.4 mm balanced jack output
Discrete 24-bit R-2R-DAC explained
The basic idea of the R-2R contact conductor is a matched pair of two resistors, the first is "R" and the other is "2R" which has twice the value of R.
and 25x2R) for one channel, or 96 pieces of high-precision resistors for stereo.
R-2R is famous for its natural and realistic sound characteristics and offers music lovers a completely different experience for music lovers.
To achieve 24-bit R-2R decoding, Cayin is looking for resistors that deliver
extreme precision and remain stable in the event of temperature fluctuations.
